Giants Do Fall
Challenges are an inevitable part of life. Regardless of our circumstances, we all face formidable wars or daunting battles in our pursuit of fulfilment.
Some challenges arise internally, while others come from external forces. Some are expected, while others catch us off guard. The truth is, that only a few people emerge victorious from these trials. Nonetheless, we must be prepared to respond or confront our challenges with strategy.
The story of David is very familiar, yet it offers valuable insights into navigating our challenges with ease. David, a young shepherd on a path to fulfilling his God-given purpose, encountered a formidable giant; a physical and existential threat to his destiny.
In an unexpected turn of events, David utilized his tools of trade: his sling and five stones to realize his victory. He then completed the victory by cutting off Goliath’s head with his sword.
I believe this story carries several strategic lessons for navigating our challenges because, like David, we will all face giants in the form of challenges, which are immense and daunting that they may seem insurmountable, but the truth is, even giants do fall. But how?
The first step in overcoming your challenges is to clearly define and understand them. Identify the specific challenges hindering your progress. Are they fear of failure, criticism, envy from others, lack of confidence, a skill gap, or limited finances? What is the ‘Goliath’ in your life?
The next strategy is to leverage what you have. David didn’t use Saul’s armour or weapons because they didn’t fit him. Instead, he utilized his resources: a sling, five stones, and his experience as a shepherd. This preparation allowed him to use these tools effectively.
Honestly, it’s tempting to feel inadequate because we lack certain resources. However, it doesn’t have to be like that, because purpose is often fulfilled using our unique skills, experiences, and opportunities. The key is to recognize and maximize what’s already in your hands.
Thirdly, you need to seek divine guidance. David didn’t approach Goliath with blind confidence; instead, he trusted God’s guidance. He boldly declared, “The Lord will deliver you into my hand.”
No matter how experienced you are, the dynamics of our challenges are unique and situational. Therefore, we need to seek wisdom and guidance in prayer and also from trusted people. By doing so consistently, we grow in dependence on God, recognizing that we’re not meant to navigate life’s path alone.
Additionally, you need to develop a personal strategy to achieve a more fulfilling success. David didn’t rush recklessly into battle, he carefully selected five smooth stones and positioned himself strategically. So his approach to that battle was both faith-driven and calculated.
Likewise, facing our Goliaths with a strategic mindset ensures victory and as well expedites the realization of our purpose.
Lastly, no matter how devastating the challenges are, never face them with weakness. Act with boldness in the face of challenges. David did so, but, his courage wasn’t the absence of fear, it was rather the presence of faith. When the moment came, he ran toward Goliath with unwavering determination.
In the same way, challenges in our lives often require bold and decisive action. Waiting for perfect conditions or absolute certainty can paralyze us. Courage isn’t about feeling ready; it’s about stepping forward despite uncertainty.
Finally, use the sword of the giant hindering your process. After defeating Goliath with his sling, David used the giant’s sword to cut off his head. This act symbolizes using the very challenges we face to achieve victory and growth.
Kindly note, that challenges often carry hidden opportunities for growth, innovation, or unexpected success. What initially seems like an obstacle can become the very tool that propels you forward.
So, always seek opportunities to transform your challenges into strengths but when they appear insurmountable, recall David’s words: “The battle is the Lord’s.” With God’s guidance and your unwavering commitment, you will triumph over your giant and fulfil your destiny.
In the face of war, don’t succumb to fear. Instead, prepare, trust, and fight, keeping in mind, that giants do fall.
Victory is always within your grasp.
