Indecision is a Decision

I have no mouth but speak the loudest. I sit still but move history. You think I am safety, but I birth regret. What am I?

We often think choices are only made with words, declarations, or actions. Unfortunately, that’s not entirely so. This is the truth we rarely sit with: silence is also a voice.
Indecision is a decision in disguise. Whether in your faith, your relationships, or your role in society, when you don’t choose, something still gets chosen. Just not by you.
In life, we imagine that by standing still, we’ve paused the consequences. We believe that if we delay a decision long enough, the situation will sort itself out. But the irony is, life doesn’t stop moving.
Time doesn’t freeze until you’re ready. The world keeps spinning, and eventually, the gap you left by not choosing gets filled by systems, people, or consequences that don’t always serve your interest. That’s the danger of passive living.
In the spiritual realm, neutrality is not an option. Choosing not to follow God wholeheartedly is still a decision. It’s the same as turning away. When Joshua stood before the Israelites, he didn’t only challenge their faith, he called out their delay.
“If serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose,” he said. Not tomorrow. Not when you’re older. Now. Why? Because not choosing God is already leaning toward something else. The throne of your heart doesn’t stay empty, it gets filled, either by divine purpose or worldly distractions.
The same principle applies in politics and leadership. History is proof. Silence in the face of injustice has always been a loud statement. When the righteous are quiet, evil grows bold. When good people refuse to vote, bad systems keep winning.
When voices are absent from the table, decisions get made without them. And before long, you’re living under a system you never agreed to, all because you opted out of the fight. Every time we don’t choose, we permit something else to take control.
In relationships, we think ignoring the signs or avoiding difficult conversations means peace. But peace that avoids truth is just fear in costume. Every time you don’t define what you want in love, friendship, or family, you’re letting the other person define your reality.
Many hearts are broken, not because someone made a bad choice, but because someone did not choose at all. They just drifted, hoping things would magically fix themselves.
Indecision can feel safe. It looks neutral, but it’s a fear of failure. Fear of being wrong, fear of responsibility. But life doesn’t wait for your fear to settle. And neither does purpose. The truth is, you’ll never feel fully ready to choose. But even your delay is planting seeds that will grow into something.
So here’s the raw, inconvenient truth: you are always choosing even when you think you’re not.
