Inspiring Change Every Day with Grace
Stand Out

Certain decisions don’t come with laughter or celebration. They come with trembling hands, wet eyes, and an intense ache of surrender.
Jesus had that kind of moment in Gethsemane. He wasn’t just praying; He was wrestling. The weight of what lay ahead pressed so hard that His sweat fell like drops of blood. He could have walked away. He could have chosen self-preservation. Instead, he said, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
This wasn’t a robotic act of obedience. It was raw and human; painfully aware of what saying yes meant. And that is why it speaks to anyone who’s ever had to choose between the easy thing and the right thing. Between comfort and calling. Between what feels good now and what’s meant to last.
We like to believe that when we’re living out our purpose, it’ll always feel inspiring, like the universe will align to make it smooth. But purpose rarely feels like a warm, cosy blanket. More often, it feels like a path through thorns.
It demands something; time, energy, pride, sometimes even relationships. And yet, it’s the very thing that makes life meaningful.
There’s a reason most people choose the easier road. It’s tempting to settle for what keeps life simple. But in Gethsemane, Jesus shows another way.
He shows us that courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the choice to move forward even while trembling. It’s looking at what you might lose and still saying, “I choose what matters more.”
Every generation has its own Gethsemane moments. Maybe for you it’s staying in a job that pays well but drains you, versus taking the risk to build what you believe in.
Maybe it’s choosing to forgive when it feels easier to stay bitter. Maybe it’s saying no to what everyone else calls success because you know deep down it’s not your path. These moments shape the life you end up living.
Research shows that people who prioritise meaning over immediate comfort tend to experience deeper satisfaction long term.
That doesn’t mean they avoid pain, it means the pain serves a purpose. And that’s the secret: purpose transforms pain into growth, while comfort only delays the inevitable.
If you’re in a place where the choice in front of you feels heavy, find out for yourself what story you want to tell later.
That question has a way of cutting through the noise. Because years from now, you won’t remember the temporary ease you chose. You’ll remember the moments you were brave enough to pick the harder, truer road.
