The Weight of My Heart

Some prayers are long. Some are loud. Some are whispered between tears and silence. But when heaven leans in, it’s not the volume, the length, or the grammar that matters, it’s the heart behind the words.

God has always been less impressed by eloquence and more interested in essence. In a world of so many spiritual excesses, divine attention still goes straight to what lies beneath, the motive.

The truth is, it’s possible to pray the right words for the wrong reasons. Asking for favour but secretly wanting applause. Praying for breakthrough, not to serve better, but to outshine others. Interceding for love, not because we’re ready to give it, but because we crave validation.

God, in His omniscience, is not swayed by the outer appearance. He weighs the intention. Not to shame, but to purify. Not to reject, but to realign. Every genuine act of prayer is a mirror, revealing not just what we want, but why we want it.

Intentions in prayer are not easy to confront. They hide beneath our needs, our wounds, our desires. They blur the lines between faith and ambition, trust and entitlement. But the refining happens when we dare to check ourselves.

Is this prayer coming from surrender or control? From trust or fear? From love or ego? God invites you to ask and to ask boldly, but He also invites you to become. He is less concerned with giving you what you want and more interested in transforming who you are.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting things; healing, provision, opportunities, clarity. But the question that often follows in divine silence is this: What will you do with what you’re asking for?

The heart test is not to deny us good gifts but to ensure we don’t become consumed by them. To ensure that what we ask for doesn’t end up replacing the One we asked it from. That’s why sometimes, answers are delayed, not to punish, but to prune.

The quiet reality is that God answers prayers we haven’t even uttered yet when our intentions align with His heart. That promotion you didn’t pray for but got. That protection you didn’t ask for but received. That peace in the storm that didn’t make sense. All signs that God watches not just our lips, but our posture. That He honours those whose hearts are set on Him,even when the words aren’t perfect.

For those who feel unheard, maybe the question is not “Is God listening?” but “What is He hearing?” The heart test doesn’t require perfection. Just honesty. Just humility. Just a willingness to let go of the mask and pray from a place of raw truth, even if it’s messy. Especially when it’s messy.

So, when next you bow your head or whisper under your breath, remember, God is not looking for a performance. He’s looking for you.
